RE:McDonald's thinking innovatively?
McDonalds is doing some reinventing. They are bringing back an updated version of their early 1990s email newsletter for moms and testing Redbox, an automated c-store in D.C.
Now I'm a fries dipped in milkshake kind of girl. But it seems strange that McDs thinks moms have time to read e-newsletters. Mom's just want kids to clean up after themselves. See proof. Or a gosh darn fine on-the-go yogurt (how about a partnership with Dannon or Yoplait?)
Does Redbox fare better? Not in my book. Check out the July review in Washington Post. Or Kiosk.com's article. At least Redbox is strategically located outside of nuclear blast range in D.C. so it could survive Armageddon. As I am writing this BLOG, an insider at McDonalds tells me Redbox is considering expansion to Las Vegas and they are looking to hire someone to project manage Redbox full time. BLOG reviews of Redbox:
Review #1 -- could this be a buzz master incented by McDonalds to blast the word (wink-wink, nod-nod)?
Review #2 -- see the July 28th post
Review #3 -- see the May 12th posting
Review #4 -- see the July 29th posting

RE:free 1 hour consulting for new women entrepreneurs in August
August is Women's Small Business Month AND National Inventors Month. No fooling: official, national August monthly observances. See proof. Finding the strength to leave a place of security and risk it all without a guarantee takes conviction, faith, and courage. It is hard. It doesn't happen overnight. As a special salute, I am extending a limited time offer.
For any woman considering leaving her corporate job and starting life as an entrepreneur, I will offer a free hour long consultation during the month of August. Feel free to pass the word along. Send me an introduction email to kirsten@reinventioninc.com and I will schedule an hour at your convenience. Shh! This is a word-of-mouth promotion only.

RE:Double Dot Award
re:invention announced our first Double Dot Award winner today. The idea for the Double Dot Award originated during a discussion I had with Chicago AIGA's public relations director, Bob Zeni. For those of you not yet in the know, AIGA is the American Institute of Graphic Arts. Bob acknowledged the recent movement towards strategic application in graphic design, but conceeded that AIGA had not yet developed a program to recognize strategic excellence among design firms. At re:invention, we've heard far too many small business clients voice concerns about how challenging it is to find a strategic design partner. Most can't afford large agencies -- and small design boutiques often don't have a strategic process in place. As part of re:invention's commitment to small businesses, we decided to create the Double Dot Award seal. The Double Dot Award seal indicates a design firm has a sound, systematic, strategic process in place. Double Dot Award winners have demonstrated a commitment to going beyond creative execution to strategic excellence.
RE:INVENTION DOUBLE DOT AWARD STANDARDS:
• Demonstrated and thorough strategic approach with regard to all client creative concept development and execution.
• Client creative problem solving that is rooted in strategy.
• A strategic assessment process and competitive brand, category, and creative analysis as part of standard practice account management.
• Creative that resonates with consistent and clear strategic brand vision.
• Creative that delivers against brand mission, audience target, brand personality, brand value proposition, brand benefits, and reasons to believe.
• Creative that integrates strategically sound visual metaphors.
• Active membership in the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA).
Sandstorm Design is our first honoree. Sandstorm Design, a Chicago-based graphics design firm, was founded in 1998 by Sandra Marsico. Learn more about Sandstorm Design by visiting their site.
P.S. AIGA is not, in any way, associated with re:invention's Double Dot Award.
P.P.S. re:invention wholeheartedly endorses AIGA and recognizes the value AIGA membership offers small boutique design firms.
P.P.P.S. Perhaps in our own little way, re:invention's Double Dot Award can help drive new AIGA membership among small boutique design firms. Wouldn't that be somethin'!

RE:stop thinking yourself unlucky
Ever heard of The Luck Factor Project?
How very 2003 -- turns out good luck is simply a matter of "spin-doctoring" and positive thinking. Primary research (and the April 2003 published book) was based on luck forecasting for individuals. The Luck Factor team has NOW announced that it is possible to increase an organization's good fortune. On July 29, they announced the results of the first ever study to promote luck in business. Turns out luck training for small businesses translated into a 20% boost in sales. READ MORE
I think they may be on to something here...
